Paying $1 a day isn't much to access porn, get rid of the expensive affiliate system that supports and promotes free porn and prices can topple and production budgets soar. You had to change jobs because the old one was killed off.

The 80's and early 90's. I remember them well.
I was a teen myself, and I remember buying the likes of Razzle and Escort every month when I was 15 or 16 in UK newsagents. Did you shoot for them? I remember going into sex shops in Germany and not even encountering a second glance as me and my classmates bought hardcore VHS tapes. Maybe some of yours.
Would have been a good time to be a pornographer, especially if you had no concerns about teens getting hold of your material.
