That's because right wing extremists were planning domestic terrorism / discussing it on those subs. All of that has been in their ToS for like, a decade. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Oh, and they were facing a lot of blowback from companies like Amazon (where Reddit makes millions) because right wingers were vote brigading books on there amongst other things.
But yeah, "censorship"...
