From those pics I'd say your dad is a pro, it takes a lot of knowledge and work to smoke that way.
That's why I went with a traeger, even though I'm mostly retired these days I'm still lazy. I like filling the pellet hopper, turning the damn thing on then lazing on the couch while it does all the work.
A couple weeks ago I did a made a small (maybe 2.25 lb) tri-tip, cooked in less than an hour, after letting it rest for 20 minutes I stood at the kitchen counter with a knife and ate half of it, I just couldn't stop!
Last weekend I smoked a Papa Murphy's pizza

He's an amazing chef and has a passion for cooking and it's something we all do as a family at least a couple times a week. Works out well for me because I like eating and really enjoy cooking.
I'm amazed at how low maintenance the barrel cookers are and how fast they cook and holds temperature. He puts in just one load of charcoal and the chips and covers it up with his temp probes in it. It will go 4-5 hours on just that charcoal. He's added so many modification to it though.
I'm trying to convince him to build his own and start selling them with all of the mods he's made and letting my programmer develop a really cool app. He's just an old school Army guy that did a couple tours of Vietnam that's retired and doesn't really have an interest in working on anything but his buzz and cooking haha. His last name is actually Stoner (and he's a stoner!) so it would be perfect for branding!
Smoking a Papa Murphy's pizza sounds AMAZING! How long did it take? Feel free to post up any pictures of your creations so I can drool!
