Yeah, I agree movies TV shows always fuck up the books, but Holly Gibney was especially disappointing to me. When I read the Mr Mercedes trilogy, and was introduced to the character, I had a vibrant and instant connection, because as she was written, with certain quirks and foibles, reminded me a lot of a dear friend that I had to leave behind in the sates and I miss dearly.
Then I saw the adaptation of Mr Mercedes as a miniseries, and although they had altered the age of the character, her quirks and foibles remained true to the character.
Upon reading 'The Outsider' I was absolutely delighted at the unexpected 'crossover' that Holly was going to play a big part. And I thoroughly enjoyed that book and was over the moon when I discovered a TV adaptation would be made.
But like I say, I was genuinely dissapointed in the changes of the characters attitude and direction, that I actually googled 'Why has Holly changed so much' and got the Bateman interview where he basically says he changed the character, to better fit the actress he wanted in the rile, and if that isn't just change for changes sake, then I don't know what is...
But anyway, its just 1st World Problems really innit? At least we have it to watch in the first place I suppose...
