It wasn't gritty, it was rough. The drugs were bad and the hookers were beaten every week. There was like one good hooker at any one time.
The rich people had their limos and their security and they went to clubs we couldn't get in.
I agree the place has become a sterile nightmare of condos and chain stores but I'd rather the late 90s.
