The first and second World War left them pretty weakened and depleted in many ways - not only that, the first World War, but 2nd WW especially led most of their colonies towards an independence worldview. Their "power" came from being able to recruit troops from all of their colonies; not just the UK itself.
None of those are problems for the US right now. A carrier group can sit nice and safely at sea and take out most nations' important infrastructure within a matter of days without a troop ever setting foot on land, if they really wanted to. That's just reality.
Russia and China lack equivalent naval and air power to combat the US in a total war scenario. Regardless, the likelihood of either fight happening is basically none.
