2 very different questions.....
Seriously - I just watched a 2 hour video on MongoDB - Was that work? - If I worked for a company and I needed to know about MongDB the answer would be a definite yes - However, I work for myself and keeping up with this stuff is important for what I do, but was watching that video "work"?..

I would definitely say it's work under the category of "Research & Development".
I've made the grave mistake in the past of not continually learning/improving work-related skills & tech knowhow... I realize i would have made twice the money if I had known just a few more things when I started out. There is a big danger in this business of not even knowing what you don't know.
Now I make sure I am learning daily. I start my work day with 20 minutes on a tech course on udemy/youtube while having coffee. Just the other day I spent 2 hours learning React Hooks cuz i got tired of hearing about it and not knowing how it works. now i do.

I am presently working slowly but surely to complete the AWS Solutions Architect course on udemy. awesome. one of these days I am going to take a Photoshop course lol.
The fact we all deal in the tech/web world means part of our work requirements is to stay current and continually improving on our tech skills to maximize our efficiency, production and income.
