I traded a suicidal drug addiction in 70s for an exercise addiction in the 80s. I was in my 30s and the garbage I was putting in my body induced Osteoporosis.

I couldn't sit down without pain, I couldn't stand up without pain and I couldn't lay down. Sitting cross legged on the floor was about the only position I could sleep in. But of course the solution to all my pain the doctors prescribed me more drugs. - Great thing to give an addict

The cure for my addiction was finding another addiction. I can't say that substituting one addiction for another will work for everyone but, it in my experience, it works well enough that everyone should at least give it a try.

So if someone is a smoker, over-eater, video game junkie, etc. It's worth a shot substituting something healthy to be addicted to.
