That is the source I have been using since a month or so into this shit. CDC numbers lag behind. Worldometers collects the data from various sources that they list if you drill down. Very transparent.
Most references to counts are using Worldometers or John Hopkins numbers as far as I have seen.
Right now, the CDC Provisional death count is only updated through September 12 it says 185k On the CDC page it states:

This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction and cause of death.

So, the source I use is more real time. Doesn't mean that is isn't accurate.
