Or is a gateway unnecessary and I just get a processor? Also is it a good idea to use more than one gateway or processor?

I don't have need to accept transactions with a physical card present, just accept cc payments through a web page where the customer puts his card information and confirms payment.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
You need a merchant account, and a gateway to process. The gateway I use is eprocessingnetwork.com
