Two years ago I joined a local program to pair veterans with older veterans who need friends and occasional helping hand. I was paired up with a 73 year old former Air Force man and we've become friends. It was nice. We would go for walks, get lunch once a week, and when his car broke down I was able to help him out. Tonight I got a call saying no one had heard from him in a few days so I rushed over his apartment... Long story short I found him in his bed, he had been there for at least twenty four hours, was non responsive, had soiled himself, etc... It's just sad.

When I go I want to go out quickly, hopefully in a ball of fire. I don't want to be rushed to the hospital every month in an ambulance.
