I did get girls out of my league a lot in my 20's. I also had a tried and true way to get girls to want me. You sit next to or close to the hottest girl in the bar. Guys will come and go buying her drinks but they would always talk to me because they liked the attention and didn't know why I wasn't giving it to them.
Sadly the trick also worked on not so hot girls and with beer goggles, I also went home with some coyote ugly types.
