The problem with the S&P and DOW is that for the most part they are so high in cost most can not afford it. Yes on some sites you can buy a fractional share and that's nice. Eventually you will get a dividend worth it. But it make take forever. So buy fractional shares but also look for other options.
There are plenty of other options to buy into that will also grow with dividends and a lot faster for less investment.
You just need to check and watch your investments and change when needed.
