Dude lots and lots of white people in Manhattan cannot afford some 3000 square foot killer apartment. No one on that show made a lot of money (actor, chef, whatever the fuck Phoebe did). The apartments were Hollywood sets (the show was filmed in LA, not NYC) so they are totally unreaistic.



I hung with the "hip" downtown music crowd at the time and we all had tiny shitty apartments. The "friends" on the show were annoying yuppie whiners. LOL
