I finally visited San Francisco for the first time last year for a couple days, and it was such a let down. I really thought it would become one of my favorite cities in the world. It was during COVID and everything was still closed so I figured I could still walk the streets and explore the city. As I'm walking, I had a craving for a cigarette so I ask this non-feminine, likely feminist (I know, right?) who was putting out hers if I could buy one from her. I even had a dollar in my hand to offer as I think they're like $15/pack there. I ask "can I buy a smoke from you?" and she yells at me, "NOOO!!" like I'm a dog. I'm thinking "JFC lady" and make a face like "WTF happened to you?". So after that awful experience I just bought a pack even though I just wanted one single cigarette.
Then the next day, I see an obese, purple-haired woman walking towards me, looking miserable, carrying a purse with something painted on it. As we walk closer to each other, I can read her purse with "Smash the Patriarchy" in white paint. She sees me looking at it and gives me this evil death stare since I am the beautiful, straight, white CIS gender male she can never have.
Unfortunately, these two experiences (and the massive amounts of homeless people) are what I remember most of SF. I'll give it another go again perhaps another time.
