Correct. Most places do, at least for the main TLDs, other TLDs may vary.

Additionally at most/all registrars there's a 30 day redemption period after the grace period where, assuming it hasn't been passed to an auction and sold, you can pay around $100 to recover the name. If it isn't worth that, it wasn't worth renewing anyway.

In addition to that Namecheap will email you 30 days before a name expires.

Then they email you 15 days before the name expires.

Then they email you 7 days before the name expires.

Then they email you 24 hours before the name expires.

Then the name expires and your site doesn't work any more.

If that isn't a big enough clue, they then email you for the fifth time a few days after it has expired.

I mean Namecheap is shit, for many reasons (and so is Namesilo), but people have take some responsibility.

If you're not reading your email and you don't notice your site is down for a month, then you couldn't have thought the name was that important to begin with.
