I'm not sure if you're implying an anti-white motive, but I think it's most likely because the (financial/PR) risk of not doing it is greater than for doing it. Facebook and Twitter certainly didn't mind spreading the alt-right/Trump word when there was money in it for them.
Just write this off, ignore it, or even give it a chance. If the story and characters and themes are okay, and there's nobody wearing an "Elf Lives Matter" t-shirt (I would watch it just for that though) then what's the real problem?
I mean this probably will be terrible, but not because of 'diversity'. And the diversity arguably makes the story more accessible or relatable to people who may not otherwise pick up the book, which is what matters.
