I'm up in Canada, but I got insurance on my two cats when I first got them. My little boy had crystals develop in his bladder when he was 4 years old, and he required surgery and several days of care at the vet. I was surprised that the pet insurance actually did come through and pay the entire bill aside from a small deductible. The whole thing was a few grand and it was all covered.

Since then, they've had no issues, and hopefully things stay that way, but already they've pretty much paid for the insurance for the rest of their lives (probably not quite, but I feel that way).

The other note that I have is that it was very comforting to know that there was never a question about the cost for care. Just give him whatever he needs. I would have done that anyway, but it just felt good not to have that even enter my mind.
