It can also happen from producers as well, unfortunately...
My wife had been booked for a shoot in a week or so's time, and we happened to go out for a meal at at nice restaurant later that night.
We've just ordered and her phone goes - It's the producer - She says she'd better take it and answers. I want to discuss the shoot he says. Can we do it tomorrow please? I'm sat at a table in a restaurant atm. I'm free all day tomorrow...
No it won't take long he continues over her, and starts to talk and talk to my wife about everything and anything EXCEPT about the shoot. She politely states that she isn't available to talk right at this moment and to call her tomorrow.
He completely ignores her and continues to talk over her. She puts the phone on the table and puts it on speaker (quietly) so I can hear. He's talking about his dog, his homeowners association, something to do with a neighbor whos playing a guitar to loud in his garage, etc etc etc...
A non stop verbal diarrhea about everything and and anything that is in no way related to the shoot... Our food arrives. She puts phone back to 'normal mode' and says - Sorry, foods here - Got to go - bye ! And he still keeps trying to finish whatever story he's telling her and saying no wait wait, there's not much more, hold on etc...
Because my wife was a nice soul, she didn't just hang up like I told her to do, but kept him on the phone. After about a couple of mins of her still listening, she could see I was getting pissed and was about to take the phone, so she says 'Look I'm ever so sorry, but I really have to go. My foods getting cold, call me tomorrow please' and ends the call while he is still in mid sentence...
Following day - No Phone Call from him, nor the day after that either. Then she gets a message that her shoot has been canceled, as he has found another performer thats a 'Better Fit'...
No big deal to us, as she was never short of work, but it would have been really shitty to have hooked in a 'less in-demand' performer, who ended up having to listen to his bullshit for an entire week, just to get her payday at the end....
