As mentioned previously, always use the raw file. Most editing programs will build a proxy so you are actually working with a smaller file that’s superimposed on the raw. When rendering, however, it’s pulling from the raw into your desired format. Once you get your 1920x1080 or 4k for that matter, you can use the larger file to render to diminutive formats, but even then, it’s always best to render down from the raw edited file.
Are you having any issues with speed or choppyness? This is where it can get kind of pricey. F.e., dump the files to mirrored drives, transfer to your render drives, 2 ssd in raid 0. Make sure you have lots of memory and solid cpu and gpu.
