I disagree - when you think about all the services offered and how cheap it is, I'd say its really worth it.
If AWS is too hard, Linode is a really good solution too. It doesn't give you as much as AWS does but it's easier to learn.
The best about both is that if you need a server online instantly, you can have it after just a few clicks, with as much power and resources as you need too.
Microsoft Azure is also really good and the format is similar to AWS. Azure is better for Windows servers but surprise - you can spin-up a half-dozen flavours of linux machines too with just a few clicks.

I say it's not worth it from a time and usage perspective. Learning the stuff is definitely worth it, but nobody cares if you have an AWS branded "certificate", just that you know what you're doing.
