There were hundreds of tubes and aggregators who monetized the content that was "uploaded" by users with dating, live cams and ads. Lots and lots of ads. The content was used without permission or with so many pay-sites, ours included, made the best deal we could and took whatever pittance of traffic they would send our way on an affiliate basis. I uploaded clips, not full videos.

This continued for 10 years or so until they started to slowly realize that if you kill off your supply chain eventually it dries up. Yes, some old chubby swingers will upload their own sex videos, but hot 19 year old college girls "experimenting" at a frat party like to be paid. That is a huge simplification, but generally right.

So a few years ago, the tubes started to sweeten the deal for producers and creators by opening up monetization paths.

Acquisitions and market pressure consolidated the legal tubes to the big three in Xhamster, Xvideos and Mindgeek and a few other fringe tubes.

Visa and MC stopped processing for Pornhub which scared the shit out of all of them.

Now all three are desperately migrating to platforms with memberships of some kind and paying creators and studios on view-share, ad-share, direct sales and mini-memberships.

I work well with all three and I have good and bad things to say about their programs.

But at least they are doing the right thing now and allowing the people that work hard to create good porn to make a good living doing it. I won't let good get in the way of perfect.

Hopefully this puts pressure on the remaining tubes that still allow uploading of content.

I still have clips on some tubes that are licensed to be there, but any of my full videos that are being shown or sold without me getting a cut are illegal and I DMCA them daily.

However illegal tubes still upload my full clips and those tubes are supported by leeches on the biz like The Porn Dude and sadly many dating, cam and ad networks that are given awards by all the main event holders.

The next gen, gen Y has been conditioned via Netflix, HULU and Amazon that you have to pay for content. This bodes well for our industry.
I agree about them trying to do the right thing but yeah, they were forced into that and now us content owners are getting the upper hand again as without us, those tubes would be in a bad downward spiral with almost no business model left.

Onto there membership/viewshare options for content producers...

Pornhub used to be the best until they lost Visa/Mastercard and revenues have never been the same since and the stats were fine.

Xhamster are ok but you cannot really plan your uploads being released on set days as those uploads are stuck in 'review' for way to long. For a huge site, they seem understaffed as it seems to be the same 2 people on tickets, Skype or email.
There 'feed' promoting all the Studios is so slow I don't know why they bother. They push just a handful of posts each day so it looks pretty dead when they could be doing much more to help the Studios.
A limit on deleting your own stuff per day also sucks. Its my content so I should be in charge of that and the tag/category options need improving. For example, they have loads of weird category options but miss some real basic ones out such as no 'solo' category which is just odd.
Other than that though, they are pretty decent, the upload system is decent as are the stats... unless you want the most used for many 'last months stats' which for some reason they don't offer?!

Xvideos is my least favorite with an interface straight from the year 2005.
They often change the titles when nothing forbidden has been used or you get messages saying some uploads have randomly been disabled and you need to change the titles again.
You do this but because they have translated things, so many words are banned in some countries but not others and you have no idea which one it is - even when the titles are perfectly acceptable.
Then you have the title and description must be different by a certain % which is fucking annoying yet when viewing on the site itself, you only see the title and no description.
They have the deletion limit again (its our content, not yours!) and you cannot create your own thumbnail either and the stats are vague and have little confidence in them.
Then they do 'Sheer.com' and the whole thing just gets messy, confusing and over complicated now.
