My thoughts on certificates and exam results etc, is that in and of themselves, they are relatively pointless and worthless - Unless you have a specialized certificate (degree or similar) that allows you to practise as a Doctor or something, then yes, the information that those certificates proved that you learnt, is pretty useless...
However, what that certificate does, is to PROVE that you are ABLE to learn - That you can apply yourself to retaining facts, follow instructions, and organise yourself in such a way that proves you know what you are doing...
That's what employers are really looking for when they ask about exams and certificates. Not for the knowledge that is supposedly attached to the certificates, but the fact that you worked hard, avoided distraction and managed to successfully pass a certain amount of examinations
TL:DR: Its more about the fact that you are showing you CAN learn, retain and understand 'information' As opposed to the specific 'information' itself...
