To me, for my usage, its just the sheer convenience of it. I wanna post some image on GFY & I'm not sure if its coming from a site that doesn't allow hotlinking, or has some funny code built into the URL etc...
Drag image to desktop, drag onto imgur window, click gallery - There it is, along with the code and a button marked copy - Click that, then click paste on GFY - Job done.
Compare that to saving the pic to a special folder, renaming it to something so I can link to it, as opposed to a random string of letters and numbers, firing up an ftp program of choice, login into my server, locating a place on server for pic, locating pic on pc (in FTP program) drag the pic over to server.
Work out entire URL including what pic was called domain.com/temp/gfypic.jpg etc, then copying that to 'clipboard before using 'insert image' tag etc etc etc...
Drag / Drop / Copy / Paste of imgur beats all that nonsense. Well, that's MY usage case anyway...
