You forget Elon is planning his own mobile phone.
It could be an advantage to him if others drop twitter as he will have it on his mobile (probably one app that does many things such as text people.
People may buy his mobile because of it.
It is why i suspect he purchased twitter so he would have the main app.
In turn he can play silly sods by not allowing certain apps on his mobile.
