There was a time when all of us in the industry used to build our own computers. I used to love building my own PC - spending months planning out what I wanted to do, watching sales in newspapers for computer parts, hours spent at Fry's Electronics researching prices. The best was buying memory. I remember buying memory from a store that all they sold was memory - a little tiny store, no sign, just a bunch of display cases with memory, cash only.
Eventually you learn it's much easier to buy something off the shelf. Last time I bought a PC it was from Alienware, max it out, done. It's eight years old. When something breaks you fix it or replace it. In fact, I think my replacement liquid cooling system is from Cosair. I upgrade the video card every so often....
