I think I'm easy to sell stuff to, but apparently some people just can't manage it. I like exhibiting at and sponsoring events, but it can be too frustrating in the adult internet space.
Examples of ways not to sell:
(1) Ask: what is your budget? (Please tell me why I want to afford whatever it is; don't make me think a special inflated price is being formulated. I want to be shown value I could pay for and, no, the salesman would like dough is not a feature.
)
(2) Don't bother to send a sell sheet when I've expressed interest.
(3) Tell me the price on the sell sheet is not the real price, and actually it is more, because of some reason that is not on the sell sheet.
(4) Ask to "jump on a call" instead of sending me the rates.
(5) Ask to "jump on a Zoom" instead of sending me the rates.
(6) Try to interrogate me about every aspect of my business, when I'm just trying to buy a booth or a banner or whatever. If I'm not querying to buy consulting, this is, at best, a time-waster.
(7) Act like they have no recollection of me, when they've hung out with me at events on multiple occasions. This just makes me question the whole value of even showing up to conferences, much less getting spendy about it.
Bizarrely, these are all real examples of salespeople in our space. I'm not perfect and I don't expect other people to be perfect, but FFS.
