I've had the thin-content issue from Google where I didn't have enough content. But it's been years since I've had that. It seems to be random, out of a large collection of domains, about 60% seem to be fine, the other 40% seem to be penalized.

Yeah thanks. That is their way it seems of being able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, and have that link as an excuse. If you're 60/40 fine/shadowbanned then it means they have no clue what they are doing and are trying to likely put a damper (to some degree) on adult.
