if anything can be said to be good about Hurricane Katrina it's that it changed policy in the US on evacuation/rescues during natural disasters
a lot of peeps died during Katrina cuz they wouldn't leave their pets behind. I'd have been one of those, no fucking way I'd leave my 2 babies behind even if we were stranded on a rooftop
now rescues in those situations do take pets too. mammal, reptile, amphibian, whatever. they're called companions for a reason and they are family
sucks it took a massive disaster to recognize that but at least it happened
for the rescuers, shelters, foster peeps, etc, they are angels taking care of angels
I've been a cat foster mom before. this was eons ago, got two together cuz they were pair bonded. I ended up adopting them cuz it takes me about 5 minutes to fall in love with a cat. I'm selfish and def not an angel
what I love about good shelters is that they realize animals need more than just food and water. love, playtime, socialization. not only does that make them more adoptable but also a serious quality of life thing
all the props to everyone who does that work but they can't do it without financial support
did DVTimes post an actually useful thread? lol heavens be
