I released my first book in 2013 when I foresaw the revolution in dating and relationships coming, the internet and online dating allowed a totally new way of making connections outside of what was normally possible for people pre-internet.
Yes yes, we had VHS dating and other matchmaking services, but all of those involved chipping away at serendipity in your own life for fish-in-a-barrel type services where you, I believed, would eventually be in a position where your potential mates would be put behind some sort of monetized scheme to keep people single and trapped in serial monogamist relationships without them even being aware that their mating and dating had been totally gamed by the system.
I was right.
Now in the west (At least Canada for sure) you have young men too afraid to approach women in public out of fear of being called a harasser, the word "incel" slapped on you is even worse than being called a pervert or queer, which would have been fightin' words in the 90's or 00's, and the balance of power has wildly swung towards women.
Remember in the 90's and 00's where women chased men around? I remember, it was a completely different planet back then. The smartphone has allowed a completely new form of relationship to develop. All this tech gives the ability for someone to seduce you through a screen without even requiring the person to meet up with you.
Why would a woman settle for a regular joe with a regular job, get married, and have kids when she could have 1000+ boyfriends paying $15 a month and she spends some time listening to their problems and telling her how hot she is, and then they send her a couple of dick pics and she replies "oooh I'm so turned on" which is more female attention than that guy has got for years. He's fucking hooked.
Birth rates plummeting, male friendship crisis, people lonely as fuck and on all sorts of drugs... someone just found a way to capitalize on people's desperation for any sort of human connection. I feel like old fucks like me could see this coming a mile away as subcultures disappeared, people became much more conformist, and the balance of power between the sexes is totally out-of-whack.
