Actually, there are less steps in my story. The difference is that you don't need a friend with a paysite.
Also, the paysite and the affiliate account would be two separate businesses subjected to control and taxation. Much more complicated.
If they wanted to launder money the way you described, funneling sales through the affiliate account would be unnecessary. They could simply buy membership on their own paysite and pretend those fake users are their regular customers.
