There's a guy on YouTube called Car Wizard, who works on a wide variety of cars. It's amazing to see him point out the design flaws and strong points on modern cars. One of my favorite moments is how he despises the Cadillac Northstar engine because the head bolts (giggity) are threaded too shallow and they bust loose in the aluminum block. YET, his daughter drives one, because there's a tap and die kit with upgraded bolts to do the job properly. That rebuilt engine will probably go 200k now.
What's sad to me now is how Mercedez and BMW, two top luxury cars that were known for reliability and ease of repair in the 80s, are now overcomplicated and not worth maintaining over 100k. Car Wizard refused a rebuild on Hoovie's BMW V-12 because there were too many cars (including Hoovie's other cars) in the shop, and it was too much of a pain even for him.
