Yes, they introduced the adultwork developers platform to allow developers/affiliates the opportunity to redesign their platform, some of which they are currently in the process of transitioning to.
Hard to believe it's still one of the most popular UK sites though, declining I think, but considering like you say the outdated look and feel of their main site that's long overdue updating.
Again, that was the purpose of the developers platform, so you can access their API and promo tools to make your own sites which they can incorporate into the main site and you take a chunk (albeit small) of the sales.
