Every year I do read in the news that California is negligent in their burns and forest cleanup because of environmental concerns, which is why they are more affected than regions with similar weather and fire risk.

In October of 2024 the US Forest Service announced it would stop doing prescribed burning in California "for the foreseeable future" because they want to save resources for WHEN the inevitable forest fire happens instead of preventing it, completely ignoring local tribes who've been mitigating wild fires with prescribed burns since forever because MUH ENVIRONMENT idiots.
Literally the only way to prevent wild fires is with prescribed burns. This has been known since not long after humans discovered fire.
