In October of 2024 the US Forest Service announced it would stop doing prescribed burning in California "for the foreseeable future" because they want to save resources for WHEN the inevitable forest fire happens instead of preventing it, completely ignoring local tribes who've been mitigating wild fires with prescribed burns since forever because MUH ENVIRONMENT idiots.
Literally the only way to prevent wild fires is with prescribed burns. This has been known since not long after humans discovered fire.

It's the same dilemma we go through in Aus, sadly its been shown more people will get damaged health and die from smoke inhalation than the out-of-control fire's cause, especially if the smoke blows over and sits on a populated area. It's a dammed if you do and dammed if you don't situation.
Personally, I'd rather they just let these areas burn naturally otherwise at least 3 weeks a year here in Sydney you can't fucking breathe... so we can save someone's house that shouldn't have been built where it is in the first place.
