The one thing that most are forgetting who are responding to these age verification threads, which is actually a very important thing you're not considering...
Its going to be easier to circumvent the age verification, than it is to implement something that would actually return some of the lost profitability in the industry, most people don't actually care about the 'long-term' sustainability of their income, they want to make money now, without worrying what will happen 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years down the road, that's how we got into this mess to begin with, affiliates and site owners giving the horse away with the cart to make a quick buck.
