In adult, animated GIFs and HTML5 motion banners are more common. For example, refreshing a site like Pornhub will showcases the high-quality banners that appear to perform well. As you know, the effectiveness and style of banners can vary depending on the specific site design and niche. In the mainstream market, static advertisements are a little more prevalent for me, but again, it largely depends on the platform and the client's advertising strategy.
Some of my larger clients create multiple sets and styles of banners to split-test and identify the ones with the highest click-through rates (CTR). From there, we experiment with different colors, calls-to-action, and content to fine-tune and optimize the banners for maximum conversions.
