    SEO: What about graphics?

    Salutations!

Sending out a press release tonight, dialed in with information provided at Internext regarding SEO.

Something hit me though. It's come up that Google hates duplicates, but that was specifically regarding copy/text.

What about graphics? There's a number of adult news sites that post graphics in different sizes than one another. But what if they're sourcing from the same graphic and resizing?

Let's say GFY.jpg, each placement posts the same graphic on their site, with the original being 1080x1080.

Is that something spiders look to kick out of their results?

    Thank you kindly!

Its easy for Google to detect resized images from the same source, you can apply some minimalist filters (instagram filters or a typical camera filter) and other effects to make your images slightly more unique. Although the image alone shouldn't trigger duplicate content or stock photography websites would kill all seo.

I have never heard anyone get penalized for their images. Resizing also doesn't really matter. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

        Hello Jay

Robert here - I was one of the 3 special speakers and the moderator of the SEO seminar at Internext which I hope you enjoyed. Sadly I did not get enough time to take everyones questions so I'm happy you posted this and hope that the answer is satisfactory.

Now as you know pictures tell a story. But if you have too many images, you risk huge impacts on speed

Google adjusts the ranking and indexation of sites that are found guilty of having duplicate content. However, this ONLY occurs if the content is deliberately copied to manipulate rankings or mislead users. Duplicate images aren't typically a primary concern for SEO ranking, but they can contribute to issues if they lead to duplicate content problems on your website

So to avoid duplicate image issues try to use unique image file names that accurately describe the image's content and create unique images for your content along with using unique titles, tags, and categories

NOTE one thing I mentioned is it saves on page speed a great deal if you consider WebP format rather than jpg for your images. Plus Google can't read numbers so actually name your images from 2345.jpg to isabella.webp

Now what if you use an image on other pages? Google generally does not penalize websites for using the same image on multiple pages, as long as the image is being used in a way that is relevant and appropriate for the content on each page.

However, it is a good practice to use unique images and to use alt text that accurately describes the content of the image.

dont hesitate to contact me if you have problems

also if you remember from the seminar I do have that free analyzer on my website you can use as often as you want at no charge. be good to run your site through that as well for images and more.

I do apologize that during the seminar we talked mostly about backlinks and brick store sites and not a real overview of what people face when it comes to SEO foundations. I sort of felt that was going to happen as did AVN thats why they asked me to create the analyzer so everyone could learn. every seminar I've done in 32 years we always had a long session where I dealt directly with websites but not this time.

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking yesterday that I need to follow up with a client about that analyzer. I tested their page during the seminar.

Overall, still a good panel, especially for getting questions answered.

Thanks - going to try and add more options to that analyzer so you'll be more informed and it can help. Keep checking.

BTW if it runs show it's not broken - it's gathering data from your site. Some get an answer in a few seconds while others may take 20 seconds.

i recently made a wp plugin for sites that make galleries better for seo by default wp will just upload in the year structure if set. my plugin will create a gallery with the post name as the folder and same with the filenames.

                                    instead of wp-content/uploads/2025/IMG_900.jpg

it will create wp-content/uploads/post-name/post-name-1.jpg post-name-2.jpg etc.

i let the other webp plugins do that, this will do whatever is uploaded. some webp plugins will do it on upload, this will take the webp as the file if it does that. jpg isnt hard coded, whatever extension is uploaded will use that.

From what I've seen of duplicate content is that google will index a couple of pages with duplicate content and then all of the rest of the pages it won't index. Generally the site that posted the content first is the one indexed. This especially applies to page titles.

When it comes to Google, "duplicate content" only refers to the same content on multipe pages of one the same website.

Their goal was to decrease usage of their resources (CPU and memory) for crawling and indexing websites.

It's ok to have the same content on multiple sites.
