It goes into effect today.
The REAL ID Act is now effective. Since May 7, 2025,
federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will only accept REAL ID-compliant identification for security purposes like boarding a plane. This means that standard, non-compliant state-issued driver's licenses will no longer be sufficient.
I'd love to be at one the main US hubs right now watching everyone have complete breakdowns and blowups because they don't have one yet
