It's not really much different to getting off on erotic fiction. At least this is interactive. The bot's responses are also based upon real training data.
And you're all talking about AI girlfriends, but AI boyfriends for women are popular too. In South East Asia they are more popular. The reason they are not in the West could simply be because AI companions are invariably marketed for males. Now that AI voice chat has reached crazy levels of realism and empathy (notably Sesame AI's 'Maya'), I expect AI companions will become more popular with women.
