It's simple. The higher the resolution, the more you can crop if you deliver in 1080 or 4K. you can cut between wide and tight, move the frame and generally do more manipulation, but you always have the higher resolution master. And with tech today, if you have your original in 16 X 9, you can interpolate into some pretty good looking 4 or 6K video.
