You should have a safe for work page or pages first to explain what your site is about and try on it to tempt people to verify their age to see more or join. Even have some safe for work images. Then have age verification for people to join or see more of your site. In my opinion you've just put a block on your site. I've seen a lot of sites do the same thing and it baffles me. Surely the best thing to do is create a safe for work tour where you can show what your site is about and give information about it. To go to a site and be immediately confronted with the age verification has got to be the wrong thing to do. I'm sure almost everyone will just not bother with it and just move on to another site.
