Advertising/marketing, as per the demand displayed of bids on Overture is hardly a relative comparison between both industries. Yes, 'hosting' in example, brings in an average of $1.00-$3.00 per click via Google adsense as a publisher. Nice figure right? Well, how many are actually targeted? How many prospective customers will click? Convert? We're talking about a select, niche group. A wealthy group of business men for the most part. Purchasing hosting for a website. How many people are webmasters/own businesses looking for hosting? We're talking about segregating the majority of people here. Contrary to what you would think, not many are webmasters. Now, what is the prerequisite for a porn purchaser? None. Any female, male, or pirate (hey lets not discriminate) can be interested and eligible to purchase porn. Thus with this demand, and such competitive saturation, the bids must reflect accordingly. If we had $3.00 bids keyword terms such as "sex", advertisers would flush out months of marketing revenue in a single day!
i know it's not accurate measurement, but trust me the figures are nothing close. I've often some of the top spots for sex, porn, xxx etc and I'm familiar with the volume, cost and profit margins.....

just in quick

flowers 897468 searches (Advertiser's Max Bid: $3.25) VS
hardcore sex 373156 searches (Advertiser's Max Bid: $0.12)

grants 106145 searches (Advertiser's Max Bid: $0.41) VS
teen sex 156094 searches (Advertiser's Max Bid: $0.13)

i can give you 1000s examples where the mainstream does higher volumes, in extremely much higher CPC and i assume profit margins. Do not underestimate mainstream. It's a whole world. Porn is just an island of it :-)
