This has a higher likelihood in happening NOW than at anytime before the Second Vatican Council. With Pope John Paul II's record number of cardinal appointments in the past decade, he definitely has insured a VERY racially diverse College of Cardinals. This is the same body that will elect his replacement upon his passing.
Good chance of a non-white pope. Not so good to dismal chance of a liberal pope.
