The Centrino just kicks ass...
I have a Sony VAIO PCG-Z1M, its just perfect. Up to 6 Hours Battery Life without any problems, on-board Wireless LAN and Bluetooth, wireless/bluetooth can be turned off with a switch next to the keyboard, magicgate slot, perfect if you have a sony digicam, modem and normal lan built in, 1.7ghz, but still fast as hell, and one KICKASS 1400x1024 CRYSTAL CLEAR screen with GREAT brightness, so you could even use it outside in sunlight if you want.
Video Encoding Slow? Well, I must say I was amazed when I ripped & encoded a DVD to DivX for testing it in almost realtime. Took only around 10% longer than the movie.
This notebook is just juiiiccyyy ... perfect for ya ;)
