Children found playing with missile launcher
A shoulder-fired missile launcher has been handed in to New York police after a passer-by spotted children playing with it in the street.
The weapon - which did not contain a missile - was spotted by an unidentified pedestrian who took it to Brooklyn's 62nd Precinct station.
The NYPD Bomb Squad was called, determined the launcher was inoperable and safe, because once it is used, it cannot be reloaded and used again.
Detectives say a US soldier brought the weapon back from the war in Iraq and gave it to a friend, who ended up throwing it away with the rubbish, where the children found it.
Despite reassurances from the police, many residents in the area say they are worried about the discovery.
