thanks man. i was wondering if they were goin to go for a whole new system or just updates because i heard that xbox is upgradeable.

Well, for one it has seen so much trouble with people trying (and succeeding) to hack the Xbox and making it function like a standard PC running Linux. Changing the architecture completely will stop this from happening. There is also the deal MS did with ATI for the graphics core. ATI has worked well with IBM as we can see from the GameCube, and may have had a say in where Microsoft should go for its chip.
