Don't buy anything larger than books from Amazon. I bought a big screen TV and it took something like 6 weeks to get it.
You'll have to jump through a million hoops just to get anyone useful on the phone. Basically, don't bother with the dummies in customer service. Get a number for the corporate headquarters and demand to speak to the executive escalation group. If they keep putting you back to normal customer service just keep hammering away for executive escalations. Eventually you'll get to some voicemail bullshit, but if it's the executive escalation group go ahead and leave your info.
I left messages with assistants for every Amazon exec I could find, but basically nobody there gives a shit about a customer service, and the executive escalation group are the only people that are going to give a shit about sorting out your problem.
