The fact of the matter is: the adult industry is often a haven for convicted criminals or, simply, people who can't get a decent job elsewhere. It's not like you need to go to college or get a license to be in the porn biz.
It's a business where there's low cost and little or no barriers for entry --- where every low-life scammer on the planet can try to make a quick buck and, often, does.
So it's not surprizing that this kind of thing might be more prevalent at adult industry conventions.

I'm not a criminal and I can get a decent job, I just choose not to cause there would be no sense in taking another job with very decent pay and working for someone else when I can sit at home, work my own hours and make 5 times as much as I would then working in a cubical programming something that someone will make a killing off of and I'll just get my salary for doing. So you are wrong there.
