I had quite a few Danes growing up......LOVED those dogs. Here are some things to know about them

They only live to be 8 or 9 years old. They are so big that their hearts just give out.
They are REALLY good about dealing with little or no exercise. If you don't run them they just eat less, you will never see a fat Great Dane.
Try to get them WITHOUT the cropped ears....they look really nice that way.
They are VERY sweet and gentle dogs, they tend to be really good about not bumping into things even though they are so big.
You should be careful not to swat them too much as a puppy when you are housebreaking them. Just yelling will do. If you do you tend to make them nervous as they grow up and you will have a drooling problem.
When you go to the breeder, make sure to ask alot of questions about hip displasia. This can be a very bad problem with them.
They love to be around people, they will always like to curl up in a corner of the room where people are.
If you have kids, or smaller dogs, cats, birds,etc....Danes are great. They are very patient and gentle with smaller creatures.

I think that they are the best!!
